Scheduled walks for individuals

The following walks are turn-up-and-go light-hearted walks with humorous anecdotes and topical stories, suitable for all ages. They form part of a programme of walks co-ordinated by Windsor Tourist Office and as such, tickets are sold by them (tel: 01753 743900)

Each walk takes around one and a quarter hours, at a leisurely rate. No advance booking is necessary - turn up and pay on the day. Tickets cost between £3 and £6. Tours all start at the Royal Windsor Information Centre at 11.30am.

Here are the scheduled walks for 2010:

SATURDAY 8TH MAY: "TUDOR WINDSOR"

See Windsor through new eyes and learn about what life was like here in Tudor times. Learn some surprising facts about the things which you take for granted nowadays, but which would not exist, had it not been for the Tudors.

SUNDAY 16TH MAY: "STUART WINDSOR"

A subject rarely touched upon, which we are bringing to light this year. What happened here during the reign of the Stuarts - what benefits did they bring to the town and area? What surprises can we show you - come and see!

SATURDAY 22ND MAY: "MEDIAEVAL WINDSOR"

What went on here during that swashbuckling age? Is one and a quarter hours enough time to tell the whole tale? This colourful episode in Windsor's history marks the origins of many of our current traditions.

SATURDAY 12TH JUNE: "SWAN LIFELINE"

This is our yearly stroll along the river to Swan Lifeline, where sick and injured swans are cared for before being repatriated to the wild. The money from the tickets for this walk all goes to Swan Lifeline. On the way, hear about the local traditions associated with swans and stories of famous landmarks along the way.

SUNDAY 20TH JUNE: "SOLDIERS AND SIEGES"

This walk focuses on the military history of the town and those who guarded it or who set out to war from it over the centuries. Learn a little about the Household Division, famous royal soldiers and life in barracks and before the barracks were built.

SATURDAY 3RD JULY: "WONDERFUL WINDSOR"

This walk is an introductory walk giving an overview of Windsor from the laying of the first stone of the castle to present day. It also includes what it's like to live in such a famous town where the Royal family are your neighbours!

SATURDAY 4TH JULY: "PUBS AND PEOPLE"

Learn about the history of public houses over the centuries and hear stories about particular pubs as well as tales of the colourful people who lived, worked and drank there!

SATURDAY 15TH AUGUST: "VICTORIAN WINDSOR"

Another tour where there's so much to tell - but we give it a good try! This walk concentrates on the lesser-explored area behind the barracks before returning to the town centre.

EASTER AND CHRISTMAS - DON'T FORGET THE CHRISTMAS TREASURE HUNT - dates to be advised

THE FOLLOWING WALK CAN ONLY BE BOOKED DIRECT WITH RENDEZ-VOUS GUIDES - THE ONLY PUBLIC GHOST WALK OF THE YEAR....

SUNDAY 31ST OCTOBER: "HIGH SPIRITS!" The Original Windsor Comedy Ghost Walk returns!

Has Griselda Slugpellet had her hair cut het? Has Cesca Pitt got rid of her boils? Come with your clove of garlic and a ridiculous costume to hear the ghost tales of Windsor on the spookiest night of the year!
